British artist Zayn Malik has revealed that his ‘Stairway to the Sky’ tour will have a stop in Mexico. The announcement thrilled fans over the weekend and sparking excitement among Mexican Directioners.
Malik, a former member of One Direction, generated excitement among Latin American fans when he posted an Instagram story inviting fans in Mexico to register for “exclusive benefits,” initially including access to tour merchandise.
“Mexico… you don’t want to miss this! Make sure you sign up by the end of the weekend,” the story said, convincing fans that at least one concert was imminent.
Zayn Malik in Mexico
“Mexico City, see you in March,” Zayn shared in another Instagram story. While the exact date wasn’t mentioned, it was clear the concert would take place in just over a month, with tickets sold in three phases:
- Tuesday, February 28: Pre-sale for those registered during the weekend.
- Thursday, March 30: Sale for Mexico residents.
- Friday, March 31: General public sale.
Mexican media reported that the concert is scheduled for March 27th at the Palacio de los Deportes, a venue with over 17,000 seats. This would make it the largest venue Malik has performed in since leaving One Direction. The event marks a significant moment in his career and mental health journey, as his previous tour was canceled due to panic attacks.
The ‘Stairway to the Sky’ tour began in the UK with venues holding 2,000 to 3,000 people, and U.S. shows have not exceeded 7,000 attendees.
Following the announcement of his Mexico concert, Malik’s social media was flooded with messages from fans across Latin America:
- “Come to Brazil soon, Zayn, for the love of God.”
- “Mexico loves you.”
- “Please come to LATAM!”
Tribute to Liam Payne
Meanwhile, in the UK, speculation is growing about Malik and his former One Direction bandmates—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson—reuniting at the Brit Awards on March 1 to honor their late bandmate, Liam Payne.
If confirmed, this would mark their first time together on stage since Malik’s abrupt departure in March 2015. The artists privately reunited in November 2024 during Payne’s funeral. Payne tragically passed away on October 16, falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
