Rep. Jasmine Crockett said Democrats will investigate President Donald Trump if the party wins the House of Representatives in next year’s midterm elections.
Speaking to MSNCB, Crockett said she “fully anticipates” Democrats will retake the Lower House next year, and “guaranteed” that lawmakers “will do what we are supposed to do as constitutionally sworn members of the House.”
“We will investigate, look at whether or not the president himself has violated the emoluments clause as relates to, say, such things as getting a $400 million plane from the Qataris,” Crockett added. She then mentioned other potential topics of investigation, including the dinner offered for top holders of Trump’s cryptocurrency.

“There is no shortage of things for us to dig into and determine whether there were not only violations of our law but of our Constitution as well,” Crockett added.
Crockett also said she will seek to become the Democratic ranking member of the House Oversight Committee following the death of Rep. Gerry Connolly.
“There will have to be an election to determine who is going to lead the Oversight Committee. And ultimately I’m hoping and praying that my colleagues see I can provide what we need as a team to make sure we can move forward and instill some confidence in the American people by knowing that they have a fighter who will not back down even in the face of all the threats,” Crockett said when consulted if she will effectively run for the post.
Connolly, who was 75 years old, was elected into the House in 2008 and served until his death. He stepped down from his post in late April after announcing his cancer had returned. There was speculation that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) could run to lead the committee after failing to beat Connolly for the post last year.
However, she said she won’t seek the post as she believes she would again face long odds against a more senior member of the party.
“It’s actually clear to me that the underlying dynamics in the caucus have not shifted with respect to seniority as much as I think would be necessary, and so I believe I’ll be staying put at Energy and Commerce,” the lawmaker told reporters in early May, referring to the post she did get on that committee.
AOC did not reveal who she will support to become the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee. Rep. Stephen Lynch, the third most senior member on the panel, has been replacing Connolly on an interim basis. He said he will run for the post and that Connolly endorsed him.
