Donald Trump revealed Monday he is considering redirecting $3 billion in frozen Harvard University funding to trade schools, escalating his feud with the Ivy League institution over claims of antisemitism and liberal bias.
Trump’s battle with Harvard intensified earlier this year after the administration froze more than $3 billion in federal grants and contracts tied to the university and its research affiliates, the New York Times reported. The administration accused Harvard of failing to adequately address antisemitism on campus and of obstructing requests for records related to foreign students and campus protests.
Harvard has denied the claims and filed lawsuits in federal court seeking to restore its funding and retain control over its admissions policies.
In a Memorial Day post on Truth Social, Trump floated a proposal to reallocate the suspended funds to vocational education across the country. He called Harvard “very antisemitic” and accused it of harboring “radicalized lunatics” among its international student body.
“I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land,” Trump wrote. “What a great investment that would be for the USA, and so badly needed!!!”
While lacking specifics on how such a redistribution would work, Trump’s proposal included yet another swipe at Harvard’s perceived ideological bent. He also renewed his call for the names of foreign students, claiming national security concerns.
Harvard declined to comment on the president’s post. Meanwhile, the university is continuing legal action in federal court, fighting both the funding cuts and the administration’s broader demands.
