A top Trump administration official at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has come under fire for using the DOGE government office as a backdrop for fashion influencer videos while overseeing federal layoffs.
McLaurine Pinover, OPM’s chief spokesperson, was responsible for defending the Trump administration’s mass layoffs of federal workers as part of a cost-cutting initiative led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), CNN reported.
However, as thousands of employees lost their jobs, Pinover was posting Instagram videos modeling outfits from her government office. The account linked to a website where viewers could purchase the clothes she modeled, potentially earning her commissions.
Pinover’s Instagram account, which had about 800 followers, featured numerous videos filmed inside her OPM office. In one, posted the same day OPM ordered agencies to identify employees for termination, she blew a kiss to the camera with the hashtag #dcinfluencer.
Meanwhile, watchdog groups and former OPM staffers condemned her actions, calling them unethical and tone-deaf, especially as she promoted layoffs of career employees. Pinover has since deleted the account.
