“If we get to learn about other cultures, we can feel connected to other people,” Jocy Zarco said.
INDIANAPOLIS — Super Tortas is a staple for Mexican sandwiches on Indy’s west side.
The nearly two-decade old business is also a staple in Jocy Zarco’s life.
“A lot of people come in and they’re like wow it takes them to a little corner in Mexico, un rinconcito,” Zarco said.
She grew up at her parents’ restaurant and now works here.
Food is just one way she shares her culture with people in her hometown. Music is the other.
“If we get to learn about other cultures, we can feel connected to other people,” Zarco said.
She’s celebrating her Hispanic heritage in Cabaret Latino, Songs of the Americas. A bilingual musical celebration for not only Latin music’s biggest hits, but also some of the biggest hits in the U.S. The songs are mix of Spanish and English.
Alexis Faviel will join Zarco on stage too along with two other singers.
“Performing on stage and showing all that dance, movements and all that stuff I feel like people can connect with the rhythm,” Faviel said.

Faviel also grew up in Indianapolis and has a family business also on Indy’s Westside, Artesanias Cholula. It’s shop for Mexican artisan pottery, jewelry, arts and more
He says his parents wanted the growing Indy Latino community to have a place to find items they typically could only find in Mexico.
“Bring a little bit of Mexico to here, so that people that don’t have Mexico around the corner can come,” Faviel said.
For him and Zarco, Cabaret Latino celebrates music that blends their two cultures, American and Latino. They’ll sing rancheras and also pop hits from Shakira and Bad Bunny, as well as iconic songs from Selena Quintanilla, Celia Cruz and Gloria Estefan.
“Everyone is welcome. Anyone and everyone and that is something of very much of like our culture. Not even just Mexican culture but like Hispanic culture in general. We love to share,” Zarco said.
An event for anyone and everyone because you don’t always need to speak the language to feel the music.
Cabaret Latino songs of the Americas is Oct.16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Indiana Historical Society. 13News reporter Ella Rhoades is also hosting the show.
