Lexington Park will soon see a vibrant addition to its public spaces as artist Rosalia Torres-Weiner prepares to create a community-inspired mural at Pax River Village Center, formerly known as Millison Plaza.
The St. Mary’s County Arts Council announced Torres-Weiner, of Red Calaca Studio, as the artist selected to design and paint the 10-foot-high by 16-foot-wide Lexington Park mural, which will adorn a wall next to El Rinconcito Mexican Restaurant at 21703 Great Mills Road, Unit D. The project, backed by a $12,000 budget, aims to celebrate the area’s Spanish-speaking community through an inclusive, participatory process.
On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the public is invited to meet Torres-Weiner and the Arts Council staff on the patio by El Rinconcito. This event offers a chance to share ideas for the Lexington Park mural’s design and learn about the artist’s vision for reflecting the community’s heritage and resilience. The organization emphasizes creating a safe space for community input, ensuring the mural captures authentic experiences and traditions.
The Lexington Park mural project began with a call for artists on April 25, 2025, and applications closed on June 9. Torres-Weiner was selected by late June, recognized for her ability to weave cultural narratives into vibrant public art. Her work with Red Calaca Studio often highlights Latino heritage, making her a fitting choice for this initiative. The mural’s development will rely heavily on community engagement, with photo crowdsourcing and other participatory methods shaping its themes. These efforts, set for August and September 2025, will ensure the mural reflects the values and identity of Lexington Park’s diverse residents.

Located in a bustling area near an outdoor seating space, the Lexington Park mural will enhance the aesthetic appeal of Pax River Village Center while fostering a sense of belonging. The project’s goals include celebrating the Spanish-speaking community’s contributions, honoring their resilience, and creating a lasting visual tribute. By incorporating storytelling elements, the mural will showcase traditions and lived experiences, serving as a symbol of empowerment and visibility for a community that has long enriched Lexington Park’s cultural fabric.
Installation of the Lexington Park mural is scheduled for mid-September to October 2025, with an unveiling event planned for spring 2026. The $12,000 budget covers community input, design, and installation, ensuring a thorough and inclusive process. The St. Mary’s County Arts Council has prioritized confidentiality and respect in all engagement efforts, aiming to create a collaborative environment where residents feel valued and heard.
Lexington Park, a hub of diversity in St. Mary’s County, is home to a significant Spanish-speaking population. The Lexington Park mural will stand as a testament to their contributions, transforming a public space into a canvas of cultural pride. Residents are encouraged to attend the August 20 event to share their stories and help shape this meaningful addition to the community.
