Maria Calvillo, a Spanish teacher at Stacy Middle School in Milford, has been nominated for the 2025 Latino Educators Shine Awards, according to a community announcement.
The awards, presented by Latinos for Education in partnership with state Sen. Adam Gomez, D-Springfield, recognize Latino educators throughout the state for their contributions in the classroom.
Calvillo’s nomination was submitted by state Rep. Brian Murray, D-Milford, according to the announcement.
Calvillo has been teaching Spanish and Heritage Spanish Language at Stacy Middle School since 2017. She is known for creating empowering learning environments and was instrumental in introducing the Seal of Biliteracy at the middle school level this year, helping students gain recognition for their multilingual skills.

“I am incredibly proud of Senora Calvillo for being nominated for the 2025 Latino Educators Shine Awards,” said Caridad Lopez, principal of Stacy Middle School, in a statement. “Her dedication to creating inclusive, culturally rich learning environments and her passion for empowering multilingual students have had a profound impact on our school community.”
Besides her work at Stacy, Calvillo teaches evening ESL classes through the Milford High School Adult Education Program, extending her impact to adult English learners in the community.
