OKLAHOMA CITY — The long-running OK Cine Latino Film Festival kicked off its eleventh year last night with a packed house of friends, fanfare, filmmakers, and flowing awards announced all throughout the evening.
The Yale Theatre in the Calle dos Cinco area of historic Capitol Hill was buzzing for the fest’s opening night festivities, featuring a full slate of Latino-helmed short films and stories reflecting the same depth and power of diversity that filled the theatre’s walls.
Throughout the evening, visiting filmmakers were invited to speak about their films in impromptu Q&A sessions following their screenings, and the award-winning filmmakers on hand were then surprised with their prizes live on stage.
“Our mission is to elevate the voices of our community,” Calle dos Cinco director Gloria Torres said in a speech thanking Cine Latino co-founder Rogelio Almeida for bringing the festival back to the district year after year. “Thank you for coming back every year and helping us continue this work of highlighting these voices and these stories.”
