The body of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has returned to Phoenix, Arizona, where his family and supporters are preparing for an emotional farewell. After being transported from Utah aboard Air Force Two, Kirk’s casket arrived at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and was taken directly to Hansen Mortuary Chapel, where it now rests.
For Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, and their two young children, Phoenix was always home. It is where they lived as a family and where Kirk built Turning Point USA, the conservative student organization that expanded from a local startup into a national movement. Returning his body to the city was both a personal decision and a symbolic one, underscoring how deeply Kirk’s legacy is tied to Arizona.
Relatives, including the widow and Kirk’s parents, were seen traveling with the casket as it made the journey from Utah to Arizona. Local officials said Kirk’s family will have private time at Hansen Mortuary before the public funeral, allowing them space to grieve away from the national spotlight.
Preparing for the Funeral
Phoenix is already bracing for one of the largest political funerals the city has hosted in recent years. Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will attend, as has Vice President J.D. Vance, who accompanied the body on Air Force Two. Other prominent conservative leaders are expected to travel to Arizona for the service, which will bring national media attention and tight security measures.
Acording to Trump, the funeral will be next weekend.
The arrival of the casket was received by a large police motorcade, and it was escorted from the airport to the mortuary.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Phoenix city officials have ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until the funeral concludes. Vigils outside Turning Point USA’s headquarters have drawn hundreds of mourners waving flags, lighting candles, and praying in Kirk’s memory.
Choosing Phoenix as the place for Kirk’s funeral was more than a matter of geography. The city is where Turning Point USA was born, where Kirk hosted countless rallies, and where he built one of the most recognized conservative youth organizations in the country. For supporters, saying goodbye in Phoenix feels like closing a chapter in the same place where it began.
Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10 at the Valley Utah University. The main suspect of the murder is 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, of Washington, Utah. The man was arrested at 10 pm local time at his parents home.
