Republican Rep. Thomas Massie vowed to continue pressuring for the release of the Epstein Files after President Donald Trump announced he had directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to unseal grand jury transcripts in the case.
“Folks, Keep the pressure on, it’s working. But we want all the files,” Massie said in a post on X.
Massie is among the most vocal Republicans criticizing Trump and the administration after the Department of Justice (DOJ) concluded that the disgraced financier had not committed suicide and there was no list of clients used for blackmailing purposes.
Trump has lashed out at his base over the past days, calling those who insist on the topic “past supporters” and “weaklings.” However, it continues to dominate the conversation, especially after The Wall Street Journal published an article on Thursday night claiming that Trump had written a “bawdy” letter to Epstein for his 50th birthday.
Trump said on Thursday he would sue The Wall Street Journal and its parent company, NewsCorp, as well as its former CEO Rupert Murdoch following the publication of the story, which he flatly rejected.
However, some House Republicans agreed on Thursday night to move towards a potential vote calling the DOJ to release more material from its investigation on Epstein, a step that would go against Trump’s wishes.
The New York Times detailed that the measure has not been scheduled for a vote and it’s not clear whether Republicans will bring it up, but it is telling that GOP lawmakers voted to advance it after Democrats threatened with voting on additional disclosures.
Elsewhere in Congress, North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis criticized Trump for calling the case “boring stuff.” “I have to disagree with the president,” Tillis said during an interview on “Good Morning BT with Bo Thompson & Beth Troutman,” according to reporting by The Hill. “I don’t think human trafficking of young teenage girls being exploited by billionaires on a private island is boring.”
“I think it’s despicable, and I believe that anybody who had anything to do with it or knowledge of it should be held accountable,” Tillis continued. “Just release the damn files,” he added.
Many MAGA figures are slamming the administration, most for the first time, due to its handling of the matter. Conservative media personality and self-admitted white supremacist Nick Fuentes ranted about the issue on Thursday, repeatedly insulting the 47th President and denouncing the movement he had once been a supporter of.
