Musk Promotes Post Declaring Hitler Was Not Responsible For Murdering ‘Millions of People’

Elon Musk is facing backlash after reposting a tweet that suggested Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong were not directly responsible for the deaths of millions, instead blaming “public sector workers” for the atrocities committed under their regimes.

Musk shared a post from an account called @TheAliceSmith, which stated: “Stalin, Mao, and Hitler didn’t murder millions of people. Their public sector workers did.”

The post appeared to downplay the personal responsibility of some of history’s most infamous dictators for mass killings. Musk did not add any commentary to the repost, leaving his intent open to interpretation.

However, the statement aligns with his frequent criticism of government institutions and public sector employees, particularly as he continues to advocate for deep federal job cuts through the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, the Daily Beast reported.

Musk’s repost quickly ignited controversy, with many accusing him of promoting historical revisionism and minimizing the horrors of authoritarian regimes.

This is not the first time Musk has faced criticism over perceived associations with far-right ideologies. Earlier this year, he was scrutinized for a gesture at a Trump inauguration event that some likened to a Nazi salute.
