Press release from the Gainesville Latino Film Festival
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Latino Film Festival proudly presents the second edition of the Children’s Festival and the Latino Art Exhibition, two cultural highlights designed to bring together families, artists, and the wider community in celebration of Latin American artistic expression.
On Saturday, September 13, the Children’s Festival will feature two special sessions:
- Morning session (11:00 a.m.) at the Matheson History Museum, with bilingual storytelling to introduce children and families to the richness of Latin American culture through oral tradition.
- Afternoon session (3:00–5:00 p.m.) at Blount Hall Auditorium, Santa Fe College (Downtown),with a screening of Migration: An Oopsy Doopsy Journey, followed by bilingual storytelling and a craft activity for children.
That same evening, at 5:30 p.m., the community is invited to the second edition of the Latinx Art Exhibition at Blount Hall Gallery, Santa Fe College (Downtown). The opening ceremony will feature Dr. Mable Baker as guest speaker and will showcase works by Latin American artists reflecting on identity, migration, and cultural heritage. This exhibition celebrates the power of cultural heritage to connect us, to enrich our lives, and to inspire new possibilities. It is a reminder that every expression of creativity carries with it a history, a hope, and a contribution to a more inclusive and meaningful community.
“With these events, the festival reaffirms its mission to promote inclusion, education, and the richness of Latin American art in all its forms,” said Silvana Fajardo, member of the festival organizing committee.
